Discover Lakecrest Community’s Rich History and Purpose

Located on Route 1 and State Route 234, approxmimately 28 miles south of our nations capital Washington D.C.

Dumfries history began as early as 1690 when Richard Gibson erected a gristmill on Quantico Creek. The Town of Dumfries was formally established on 60 acres of land at the head of the harbor of Quantico Creek, provided by John Graham, named after his birthplace, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

Today, Dumfries is 1.63 square miles in size, is home to 4,961 residents (according to the 2010 Census) and is governed by a town council elected at large, which is comprised of a mayor and six other members.

BASE BURN NOTICE

MCBQ Forestry and Quantico Fire & Emergency Services will conduct a controlled burn, March 14, on the west side of Interstate 95, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Residents can expect to see smoke columns coming from the installation and possibly some drift smoke throughout the surrounding area dependent on changing wind conditions.
Quantico foresters closely manage smoke impacts from these burns and ensure the safety of residents both in and around Quantico. Control burning operations normally begin in February of each year and are completed by April 15.
